Time to take action: Boycott!
As many of you may be aware, Capita have stopped sending un-qualified interpreters to HM Courts & Police, - and are now only sending Interpreters with DPSI or Met Police certificate, since the beginning of this month, and of course they're struggling!
It is time for all of the Professional Interpreters to Boycott both Capita and Direct bookings by HM Courts and the Police.
If we all unite together, Capita-TI will be, either, abolished or our rate of pay will increase – which is still better.
We HAVE to take action effectively immediately!
This Boycott will actually work, to its max, this time, because there won’t be any Tier2/3 ‘interpreters’ being able to take the HM Courts/Police assignments, as the MoJ has apparently changed its criteria for interpreters being supplied to Courts and Police. This is what Capita sent me ‘Due to the new criteria from the Ministry of Justice regarding the qualification and security needed for each tier we have had to take action immediately and remove/change the tiers for all interpreters whos qualification do not match the Ministry Of Justice Framework for each tier and the qualification required.’ And this seems to be the reason why all un-qualified interpreters have been dropped from Tier 2 to Tier 3.
So it’s on ALL fully-qualified Interpreters to Boycott the system, because it’s on us whether we want the current system to be in place; and only get paid for the minimum of 1 hour at the rate of £22, OR this could be changed by boycotting for a certain amount of time and getting back to being paid the rates we deserve.
So please, get together; unite and hopefully we’ll be able to make change and get our profession back!
