Message to Nick Clegg MP
Dear Mr Clegg,
A month ago I wrote to Lord McNally with grave concern about his written response to a question asked by Baroness Coussins (26th March), with regard to the framework agreement entered into by the Ministry of Justice to provide interpreting services. As you know, this was awarded to a private monopoly supplier (ALS). Despite the enormous body of evidence that ALS has and continues to supply unqualified linguists that have neither been assessed for competence, nor been CRB checked, Lord McNally asserted that '...We have seen no evidence of unqualified or unvetted interpreters being assigned by ALS to provide services under the framework..' This statement is manifestly untrue and strongly suggests that Lord McNally is turning a blind eye to the chaos in the courts system.
As party leader, I ask that you use whatever influence you have with Lord McNally to persuade him to take an impartial view of the facts and correct his earlier statement. For further information see www.linguistlounge.org or perhaps one of your own MPs, John Leech. Needless to say, I have had no response from Lord McNally, but as I am an ordinary voter with no power or influence, that's pretty much what I expected.
